iTunes the Works

iTunes is a digital music system by Apple which can also run on a Windows computer. iTunes is useful for backing up your iPhone/iPad/iPod and to share music with one or more devices.

Setting It Up

Create an Apple ID - this is just your email address - but be aware, the password rules require:
  • At least 1 lower case letter
  • At least 1 upper case (capital) letter
  • At least 1 number
  • No more than 2 consecutive identical letters
  • Not the same as you account name
  • At least 8 characters
  • Must not be a common password
  • And you must stand on your head while typing it!

Where do you get your music?
You can buy it from iTunes - costs vary due to popularity. Albums can be between $9.99 and $24.99, single songs from $1.19 to $2.19

You can copy your own CDs by putting the disk into your computer and opening iTunes instead of Windows Media Player.

Putting music onto Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
This is called that "Syncing feeling", aka just plug your device into your computer. But first your computer needs to get to know your device. Your device can only be associated with one iTunes account.

If you get the message below you need to decide if you have any music on your iPad that you want to keep. If you continue then your existing music will be replaced by the music on the computer.

When you plug your iPad into a USB port on your computer you will see the following "Syncing" messages on iTunes. You can also do a manual Sync or Backup.
